About Your Personal Narrative Coach
Applicants, writers, and public speakers have been turning to Marcie Wald for guidance for over 20 years.People who have benefitted from Marcie's input have secured highly sought-after positions and been admitted to some of our nation's most competitive public and private universities, been awarded full academic scholarships, and been published. Marcie has authored Nothing Can Stop Me: An Open Book on Transfer Application Essays (published by Kendall Hunt, 2005); delivered presentations in schools and at professional conferences; critiqued and scored countless professional proposals, reports, and application essays; and extensively interviewed corporate and nonprofit employers and admissions and scholarship professionals.Although Marcie’s background includes teaching and academic, career, and psychological counseling, her passion is bringing to light what is compelling in others’ life stories, encouraging narratives that contribute to success. She recognizes that learning how to persuasively present one's story is a potent life-long and multi-purpose skill.Marcie's conviction is that the way one tells one's own story is a more powerful catalyst in actualizing professional, educational, and financial goals than the narrator's experiences are by name alone.Indeed, Marcie has seen and heard striking experiences fall flat, reflecting poorly on the narrator, and average experiences exalt the narrator, because of how those experiences were conveyed. Marcie has repeatedly heard essay writers and public speakers, for example, bemoan that they have few impressive experiences from which to draw. She has then witnessed their self-perception and presentation crystalize and transform into one of accomplishment, as she facilitated the verbalization of their personal stories. Such articulation is integral to the best personal essays, interview responses, and speeches.
My Approach
Presenting one’s own story for the purpose of advancing in life can feel overwhelming, if not puzzling. How to achieve a formal yet personal tone that conveys who you are as an individual? What to leave in and out? How to highlight talent without sounding overconfident? How to be honest about hardship without worrying about sounding negative?Through consultation before you begin, personalized one-on-one review, and/or group presentations, Marcie Wald can help you prepare your award speeches, nail your responses to interview questions, or finalize drafts of your personal statements, essays, or proposals.
